Tax Preparation

As a Licensed Tax Consultant in the state of Oregon and an Enrolled Agent admitted to practice before the IRS, we are highly qualified and meet virtually at mutually convenient times to prepare current and past year tax returns. Additionally, we can assist in developing tax planning strategies that reflect your individual financial goals.

Tax Preparation Process:

  • You will explain your tax situation so we can provide you with an estimate. Since we work remotely, email communication is critical. We need a clear picture of your income sources to determine if we are a good fit to work together.
  • You will upload documents through a secure client portal, including the last two prior year tax returns.
  • Once all documents are received, and dependent on completeness and organization of your documents, it will be approximately two to three weeks to complete your return.
  • Once your return is complete, we meet virtually to review and answer any of your questions.
  • After authorization and final payment, your return will be filed electronically.

IRS Resolution Process:

  • First, you explain your situation and your desired outcome. We will provide a suggested course of action and settle on rates, then you’ll put down a deposit and we will get started.
  • You will need to sign an engagement letter and a Power of Attorney Form 2848, after which we can contact the IRS on your behalf. Once we determine your options, we will jointly decide the most cost-effective and beneficial way to move forward.
  • We then work with you and the IRS on an ongoing basis to resolve the issue(s). Often we will need to collect more information from you as we figure out what’s needed to get into compliance. The IRS processes different requests at different rates, but the timeline will be largely determined by how quickly you provide necessary documents.
  • We will create a payment plan in tandem with the IRS. Note that the IRS requires taxpayers to be current in their filings before entering into payment arrangements.

Sample Fee Schedule

Tax Preparation Fees

Believing in transparency, a fee schedule including many common costs is provided here.

Additionally, here are a few examples of common filing situations:

A single or married-filing-jointly return with less complicated income sources (e.g., W2s, retirement plans, social security, and modest amounts of interest or dividend income) combined with mortgage interest, property taxes, and small amounts charitable contributions would typically fall within the $345-$435 range.

More complicated situations typically include small amounts of income from self-employment, rental income (revenue under $45k), buying or selling primary residence, and normal buying and selling of stocks or mutual funds will often be within the $395-$550 range.

Further complexity includes two married-filing-separate returns (one for each spouse) or filing Oregon registered-domestic-partners and tend to range above $550; this is especially true when factoring in time figuring the most advantageous way of claiming dependents and certain other deductions.

Varying widely in price, amended tax returns depend on the amount of work needing to be done. Amending a return originally completed by someone else will often start in the $300 range and go up from there.
